Travelling with intimate toys: practical tips
Updated 15 October 2026
Taking a toy on holiday is perfectly normal and, in most destinations, completely legal. A little preparation avoids awkward moments.
Hand luggage or checked bag?
Toys are generally allowed in both. Rechargeable toys contain lithium batteries, and airlines usually prefer devices with lithium batteries in hand luggage. Check your airline's rules before you fly.
Avoid accidental switch-ons
- Use the travel lock if your toy has one (often a long press of a button combination).
- Otherwise, remove the batteries or make sure the toy is fully off.
Pack it hygienically
Clean and dry the toy before packing and keep it in its own pouch or a clean bag. Small travel-size lubricant fits in the liquids bag for hand luggage.
If your bag is searched
Security staff see these items every day. Keeping the toy in a pouch makes any check quick and discreet.
Check local laws
A small number of countries restrict adult products. If you are travelling outside Europe or North America, check the rules of your destination before you go.
Before you leave, read how to clean and care for your toys.
