Toys for couples: how to bring them into the bedroom comfortably
Updated 15 October 2026
Introducing a toy into a relationship is usually easier than people expect, especially when it is presented as something to explore together rather than a fix for a problem.
Start with a conversation
Choose a relaxed moment outside the bedroom. Talk about curiosity and what you would both enjoy, and make it clear that either of you can say no. Browsing a shop together is often an easy way to start.
Toys that suit couples
- Small vibrators: easy to include during foreplay or intercourse.
- Couples' vibrators: designed to be worn during penetration to stimulate both partners.
- Vibrating rings: worn at the base of the penis, they add vibration for both partners.
- App- or remote-controlled toys: one partner controls the settings, which adds an element of play, even at a distance.
- Massage oils and candles: a gentle first step. Remember that oil is not compatible with latex condoms.
Making the first time relaxed
- Charge the toy and read the instructions beforehand.
- Keep a water-based lubricant to hand: see our lubricant guide.
- Go slowly, check in with each other and keep it light-hearted.
Afterwards
Talk about what you liked and what you would change. Clean the toy and store it properly so it's ready for next time.
