Clitoral suction toys: how they work and how to choose one
Updated 15 October 2026
Clitoral suction toys, also called air-pulse or pressure-wave toys, have become one of the most popular categories of the last few years. They are designed for external use only.
How they work
Instead of vibrating directly against the skin, the toy creates rhythmic changes in air pressure inside a small opening placed over the clitoris. Many people find the sensation more indirect and less numbing than strong vibration.
What to compare
- Intensity levels and patterns: more settings give you room to experiment, but a few well-spaced levels are enough for most people.
- Combination models: some add a vibrating shaft for internal stimulation.
- Opening size: some models include interchangeable heads.
- Waterproofing and charging: waterproof models are easier to clean; magnetic charging avoids open ports.
- Noise: worth checking if you value discretion.
Tips for first use
Start on the lowest setting and add a little water-based lubricant around the opening to improve the seal. Hold the toy lightly rather than pressing hard: the air pulses do the work.
Cleaning
Rinse the head after use and, if it is removable, wash it separately. Follow our cleaning guide for the rest.
